Review: Many crumble topped mince pies have scored well over the years. And this Tesco pie hasn’t changed much since last time I tried it.
The curious thing is they don’t come in a case. Just in the plastic tray – so you’ll 100% need a plate.
Next issue is there’s definitely more pastry than filling. Now in this case that’s not all bad as this pastry is more like a biscuit consistency – quite a crunch to it. But that’s all by design I’m sure.
The mincemeat filling is sweet, and has a nice hint of the citrus and festive spices.
This pie is perfect to have warm with a scoop of ice cream or maybe a nice custard. A slightly fancier pie – wouldn’t be the sort of thing you just offer at a whim to a Christmas-time visitor. Probably better for pudding after a meal. Decent though…I’m going to grab one more now actually
