In recent years ASDA's in store bakery mince pies have been superstars. Biscuit-like pastry, sweet and rich mincemeat etc, and I'll be hunting those down as soon as I can. But today I spotted their new Exceptional range. Picked up two different pies and these Brown Butter & Rum pies are very special.
Special they may be, but cheap they are not. At 74p per mince pie, they clearly haven't got the cost of living message yet. But if you're looking for a special pie to lavish on some festive visitors, these could be a contender.
The pastry looked a little paler than I'd prefer but tastes lovely, its soft but not soggy. The richness from the brown butter comes through and the rum laced mincemeat brings things together nicely.
Could've made it closer to a 9.5 but the cost pulls it down a little.
