Review: A new offering from Aldi for 2025 with the ‘Perfect Christmas’ branding, which I can’t help feeling is an attempt to make them sound more appealing. Nice try.
A very standard mince pie – what I’d call a ‘church hall special’. The sort of mince pies you might get at a school panto night, include in the price of your ticket. And a just 21p per mince pie – they’re certainly super good value. But do they taste any good?
For the first mince pie of the season, I maybe had unreasonably high hopes – but I’m pleasantly surprised. A very solid effort for a standard, cheaper end of the mince pie spectrum.
The pastry doesn’t crumble and despite veering dangerously close to a soggy bottom – it’s avoided. The filling isn’t anything fancy, no exotic rums or varieties of cherry with a fancy name – just some nice mincemeat. The fill level is a little mean maybe, but given the price point it’s something I’ll let fly.
The decoration is decent and the sprinkle of sugar on top is a welcome addition. Decent.
